The 4 Ps: Personal

6 Areas of Personal Growth that Lead to Professional Growth

Middleton Elite Coaching – January 2021

While growing a business, it is possible to lose sight of the personal areas of your life.

Personal can best be defined as:

You for you –  What brings you energy?

You for others – How you give that energy to the world?

Personal is not last on the list of The 4 P’s because it is the least important of the 4 P’s, because it is not. We’ve actually saved the very best for last.

The Six Key Areas of Personal:

1. You for You.

You may have been in a situation where you did not have the energy to give to other people. If you spend more time with yourself, for yourself, you will, in turn, have more energy to give to others

Take time to focus on your relationship with yourself. Check-in on your goals, your dreams, and your mental health.

2. Spiritual.

We define spiritual as anything that feeds your soul.

To you, spiritual may mean religious, philanthropic, or quiet meditation. Make time for the things that bring you peace and feed your soul.

3. Physical.

We define physical as anything related to the physical body.

The areas of focus to ensure your physical health can be nutrition, hydration, quality and quantity of sleep, and how you manage your stress.

It is important to maintain physical health so that you can continue to maintain the other areas of your life with quality of life.

4. Close Relationships.

Think of these relationships as the key people for you.

An essential part of personal growth is in our relationships. These can be business relationships, relationships with family, friends, or even your spouse.

Take time to nurture these relationships by making time for them outside of your work.

5. Time Off.

Spend time planning for your time off. You may have found when planning for the next year in business, you plan your work first and then try desperately to squeeze in time off.

Try it the opposite way, the most liberating thing you can do within your calendar is to plan your personal time off first.

You may discover that you are more focused when you know you have structured and scheduled time off.

6. Personal Growth Plan.

This can be defined as the things you are doing to grow yourself.

What books are you reading? Are there any new Podcasts are you listening to? Have you considered working with a Coach, attending any workshops or classes?

What are you doing to ensure you are growing personally as well as professionally?

At some level of success, you may find that you hit a plateau in the area of personal.

The same way you continue to grow your business, you must constantly focus on personal progress as well.

Here is an exercise we recommend to help you identify the personal areas most in need of attention.
